Here in the central Sierra Mountains we have suffered through a devastating four year drought that has impacted our environment dramatically with effects projecting forward for years to come. Historically low water levels, have impacted farmers, cities, fisheries and forests, no one is beyond the drought, except obviously, the weather whiner. You see the weather whiner is the most overtly narcissistic person in California right now. Why you ask? With all the impact this drought has had, you hear people complain about the rain - really! Forget about rising food cost, irreversible ecological damage, or aquifer purging, you're cold and wet... you poor thing. "I know we need it BUT I hate the rain and snow" - well move then, we need it! A weather whiner is so easy to spot but for those of new to this or wondering if you are one here are some things to look for.
When they say:
1. "It's so cold and wet!" Really, as if I didn't have a central nervous system telling me the same thing too. I can't feel cold, wind, or driving rain, thank you for telling me as if it's your civic duty to capture the obvious and express it in the most self centered way.
2. "I wish it was summer!" Summer is a season, summer takes turns with Autumn, Spring and Winter. The seasons are patient and enjoy each other... you should be like the seasons.
3. "I get depressed when it's so gloomy, I need sun." Move to the Sahara! It's always your weather!
When they wear:
1. A down jacket in summer.
2. A parka in a 60 degree sprinkle.
Please more than anything remember- my tongue is firmly in my cheek!
